You might be thinking that this schooner is part of our group. A big boat to trailer. Unfortunately - we haven't convinced the skipper to join the ECTSS - but we'll keep trying. We often see this boat at St. Augustine. This was an interesting situation. The tide was ripping out the inlet. John's little scaffie got pulled into the current and was being pulled out. John slipped in behind this big schooner to escape the tide. It was a good plan - sail in behind the big guy. Until the big guy started sailing backwards with our little scaffie right behind. Being the ever alert sailor - John avoided trouble. Most of our boats got caught by the current and they all motored back in- no problem. But at one point we had about five boats converging on one spot. A very interesting situation to watch - from a distance. |
East Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron - unfortunately - is no more. The club began as the Halifax Trailer Sailors and eventually evolved into the East Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron. We were never a very large group - but we had some great times on and off the water. And we inspired others - elsewhere- to form similar loosely knit sailing groups. My move from Florida to Wisconsin - last October - brought an end to the ECTSS. Fair winds and good sailing to all of our past members and friends. The good news is - we may just evolve again into another group. Now that spring has arrived, we have two of us ready and able to reorganize here in Wisconsin. This time we'll focus on sailing and paddling. All we need are a few more members and a name. The Midwest Trailer Sailing and Paddling Squadron perhaps? Midwest Association of Paddlers and Sailors (MAPS)? Watch for further details. In the meantime - here are a couple of pictures from Lake Geneval taken last November. And the old ECTSS pictures will be left in place for a while as a tribute to past good times. Lake Geneva (Wisconsin) is a wonderful lake. It's deep, spring fed and clear. Dave and I were there in November hoping for one last sail of the season. |
Landroval was launched - but it was far too windy that day to raise more than the mizzen for a run home. It's now April - all of the lakes are open. Before the month is out we'll be back on the water. |
Below are some of the old ECTSS photos - a reminder of some good times. |
